Composers from history to the present day and from Sibelius to Saariaho have built Finnish culture and our country’s international reputation. The appreciation of classical music in Finland has been high throughout the decades. The concert will feature both familiar and less familiar composers from nine different decades, each adding to the story of Finnish music. Music by Jean Sibelius, Heidi Sundblad-Halme and Cecilia Damström, among others, will be featured, as well as the premiere of a work by Jukka Linkola. The concert programme, designed by Chief Conductor John Storgårds in collaboration with music journalist Mats Liljeroos, celebrates the 80th anniversary of the Finnish Composers’ Association.
